CHRISTIANS SHOULD ABSTAIN FROM EVERY FORM OF EVIL

TEXT: 1THESS. 5:22 BY: BRO. WILLIAM OVEDHE DEFINITION CHRISTIANS : Are redeemed people who do not belong to themselves but Christ Jesus. ABSTAIN : to not do something, especially, something enjoyable, because you think it is bad for your health or morally wrong. EVIL :  Something that is very bad and harmful. INTRODUCTION:   Christian should remember of the price they are bought by Christ through the blood He shed on the cross of Calvary to redeem them into his kingdom. (Rom. 6:22) Every Christian should remember the usefulness of his former life in sin, in order to appreciate his present life in the grace of God. (2 Pet. 2:20-22). We should try to maintain the grace by not turning to the life of sin from which we have escaped, and not to blasphemed the name of Jesus by our conduct. To disregard  lust of the flesh. And embrace love and grace that was poured out on the cross through the sacrificial offering of the incarnate son of God. (Rom.8:18). Wh...

WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR BURDEN?

TEXT: GAL. 6:2-5 BY: BRO. MIKE AZEBI INTRODUCTION In the Old Testament the English word “burden” is translated from the Hebrew word “Massa”, which is used of a donkey’s burden (Exo. 23:5.) In a Number 4:15, it is used of the items the sons of KOHATH carried as they moved the terbanacle to place in the wilderness. Another kind of burden is described in Number 11: 11, 17, where Moses bearing the burden of the people and the Lord tells him to gather the seventy elders so that they will help you carry the burden of the people. In that instance, the burden is not physical but psychological and spiritual. In the New Testament, the Greek word “Phortion” is used for burden, it denotes the troubles of this life in Mat. 23:4, Jesus describes the heavy burden of the people but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. Obviously, this is a burden legalism, precedence and conscience. The same Greek word is used to describe a man’s load of imperfections and ...

WEAPONS IN SATAN ARMORY

This is the concluding part of the sermon on Christian Warfare. The Christians must be aware that Satan is alive and working in a deceived world of secular enticement and religious confusion. This is the first step in preparing ourselves to put on God’s armor so that we will not be led astray. Deception : This is the power of the devil to deceive and rules the world through: Eph 4:14 Sin Rom. 7:11, 2Cor 11:3. Through fake miracle done by his allies– Pastors, General Overseer, Prophets, Founders of churches. Matt. 24:11, 24. Through deception, Satan has instigated those institutions and governments that control society to lead people against the truth of God Acts 20:30, 1Timothy 4:1. Temptation : This is a missile that goes directly to pierce the mind and change it to do evil. Components of this missile that made it too dangerous are (i) lust of the eye (ii) Lust of the flesh and (iii) the pride of life 1 John 2:16, Mathew 4:1-11, Mathew 26:41. Fear/Shame : When Satan hits ...

THE CHRISTIAN WARFARE

TEXT: EPH. 6:13-17, 1 THESS. 5:8 BY: BRO. LUKE UJAGWUNG INTRODUCTION: In the ancient Roman Empire, military action was defined in terms of the ability to achieve supremacy over the enemy in three fields: Mobility - Horses, Chariots, Cavalry. Fire Power - Spears, bows, Sling, axes and swords. Security - Defensive equipment such as Shield, armor, helmet. To introduce Christians to the concept that we are soldiers of Christ, Paul through the Holy Spirit explained that we are constantly at war with the Devil and his agents. He told us that God has also equipped the Christians with weapons that could give us supremacy in that battle. DISCUSSIONS : kind of battle  Christians enemy  the battle field  weapons in Christians armory  weapons in Satan armory  KIND OF BATTLE  Contrary to the teaching of some religions bodies that the enemy or Antichrist will rise some day from Europe, Asia America  etc. to fight Christ and his Chr...

Sacrifice

text: Luke 12:49-50; 2COR 6:3-10. DEFINITION The act of giving up something that you want to keep especially in order to get or do something  else or to help someone. A destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else.  Something giving up or lost. To suffer loss of give up, renounce, injure or destroy especially for an ideal, belief or end. INTRODUCTION: In this day of unbelievable blessings and tremendous affluence one of the most difficult concepts to get across to God’s children is the need for sacrifice. It is not acceptable to eliminate (do away with the necessity of sacrifice of Christian living). It is the means of maturity and the measurement of our individual and our congregational strength. Sacrifice is essential to pleasing God in every generation and for the growth of an individual. When one think of the bible and sacrifice, one’s mind turn to father Abraham when he offered Isaac, his son whom he loved, on the altar (Gen.22; ...

Spiritual Nails

Sermon delivered by bro. Kelvin Chiweoke Andrew  text: Isaiah 22:25 INTRODUCTION Nails: Yes-I’m sure you are wondering – nail? What about it ? According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, a nail is a long, thin piece of metal that is SHARP at one end… From the Hebrew word (ʼת ך ), transliterated yâthéd, pronounced yaw-thade’, nails are defined from an unused root as to PIN through or fasten. To derive this message home, let us consider two concepts. The first of the messages is a story I’ll share shortly. The second is a prayer point about spiritual nails. DISCUSSION Whether this story was real or allegorical, I cannot determine. A man and his wife wanted to buy a house. They needed the house but had limited resources. From frantic searches, they came across a fantastic, unbeatable offer. They could not believe such a beautiful house could be sold at such a “ridiculous price”. They called the phone number advertised. The owner was willing to sell house to them even at le...

Contentment

By Bro. Williams Ovedhe text: Phil. 4:11. DEFINITION :  Being contented – satisfied. INTRODUCTION Contentment is a process of learning to be content with the things one has. It is not an attitude of mind with which one is born. It is an attitude of mind that one develops by focusing on that which is above this material world (Luke 3:9-14.) Christians should judge themselves (Luke 19:8-10.).  Christian should be known for being satisfied with those things they have.  (Matt. 6:24-25; 33: 34.) It is impossible to focus one’s life on services to the master in heaven and the same time making material things the master of our lives (1King 3:7-12). When your request is in conformity with that God, he expands you your expectations. (1Tim.6:6-10).  Christian should focus on spiritual things that will result in eternal life. God ordained that the things of this world are to sustain us on our brief stay here, in preparation for eternal life.  ...

Sermon by bro. Williams OVEDHE   Definition Steadfast: staying the same for a long time and not changing quickly or unexpectedly. Introduction:  Coming together in the habit of Christians in order to sharping one and other for the good works of the lord-the acts of the early Christians.  II Cor.4:10 when one bears the cross of Christ he accepts the burden of the cross .  I Cor. 15:58 what God has done for us through Jesus, should move us to the bound in the work of the Lord. II Cor. 5:10 when one realises that he will give account of his actions before his Creator, then he is motivated to do the will of the Creator, II Cor. 1:7. As we willingly suffered with Christ, we will also partake of the result of our suffering, II Pet. 3:8-9. What God has said, He will do. What we might consider to be slowness on the part of God to fulfil His promises is not slowness. God is not slow to bring about His promise, Heb. 2:2-3. Those who violated the law did...

To linger in expectation: wait (Merriam Webster).
